Every Thursday Memorial Hall 10.30 – 12 noon.
We have been back in the Hall for 11 weeks, still with some COVID restrictions but getting back to our usual friendly atmosphere in spite of them. The end of the season is a good time to catch up with old friends and meet new ones.
All ages are welcome as are well-behaved dogs. At the moment ages attending range from four and a half months to ninety-six and the dogs from one to eleven.
The library has a very good selection of fiction and nonfiction. There is no restriction on the length of time you have to read the books. A warm welcome awaits. On Thursday 23 September we will be raising money for the annual Macmillan Coffee Morning with cakes, a raffle and a small stall – join us if you can.

The seeding of the foreshore picnic area was completed in July and now we have the makings of a grand area for additional tables and benches. Thank you to the members of our community who have contributed new tables. This is a very popular
area used by visitors to picnic, launch paddle boards and kayaks and the Solva Swimmers are also known to have the odd barbecue there. To celebrate our community coming alive again after the dark days of Covid, we are holding a mini-festival on this site on 25 September.
There will be entertainment, food and drinks. Summer is over and we welcomed back our visitors, so 25 September will be a time to celebrate. Watch out for posters and social media information.

Three of the defibrillators in Solva are managed by Solva WI. So far this year they have been used twice. Pads that are placed on the chest to monitor the heart and deliver the shock are disposable and must be replaced after each use. We have had
two very generous donations from the Royal Antideluvian Order of Buffaloes and Solva Care (see front page) to fund these replacements, but we must be informed that the machines have been used so that they can be checked, pads replaced and
the machine made ready for further use.
Please inform the following people if any of the defibrillators are used:
Ann Tyler: 07779 052234, Kathy Davies: 07967 934756 and Helen Thomas: 07432 648596 (these numbers are also in the defibrillator cabinets). Defibrillators are placed at: Solva Memorial Hall, Upper Solva, Harbour Inn, Lower Solva and Trinity Quay, Lower Solva. Breaking News – There is a new Defibrillator at AFC Community Clubhouse which is being looked
after by Helen Thomas and one at Llanungar Caravan Park, maintained by Llanungar Fach Farm.

The Pembrokeshire public is being asked for its views on the future operation of Waste and Recycling Centres (WRCs) in the County. A public consultation has been launched and puts forward potential options for residents to provide feedback.
It follows examination of data that showed at some sites less than 30% of available slots at WRCS are being booked. And, against a backdrop of ongoing changes to recycling legislation from the Welsh Government and increasing financial pressures, it is now timely to undertake a review of the WRCs.
The consultation is at https://haveyoursay.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/ and closes on Monday 9 August.
Hard copies of the survey are available at the Call Centre, please call 01437 764551. If we want to keep St Davids Waste & Recycling Centre it would be good if as many as possible complete the survey.

We have recently installed a defibrillator at Llanungar Caravan Park. The unit is situated in the “Information Room” in the wooden cabin on the top camping field. The unit is in an alarmed cabinet, but remains unlocked to avoid unnecessary delays
obtaining and entering access codes. This building is easily accessible following the main park entrance along “Snakey Lane” (bridleway) by following signage for the “Park Office”. It is also accessible through Llanungar Fach Farm (permissive route in
an emergency only). There is an emergency phone next to the defibrillator with the exact location clearly provided. The unit was used twice last year and is available for emergency use, it is listed on the CAD system with Ambulance Control. If it used, please inform us, as part of the equipment will need to be replaced. Location: OS Ref SM (7938,2502). What3words (///expect.sketching.campers)

Sadly the upper playground was recently vandalised and had to be closed, due to the equipment being used as target practice for bottles. Shards of glass covered the grass which was a danger for anyone playing in the area. The better news is that thanks to PCC cleanup crew it is now operational. This kind of pointless, irresponsible vandalism does not sit well with the people of Solva. The incident has been reported to the Police and anyone with any further information should please contact them on 101.
The lower Playground’s new equipment passed inspection and the barriers have been taken down, allowing the new attraction to be used.
