Edge Festival 2021 POSTPONED

Edge Festival 2021 POSTPONED

The Edge Festival Committee met in the New Year to consider how best to go forward with our festival this year. After seeking advice, particularly from Events Wales, it remained unclear whether large (over 50 people) live events would be able to take place this summer. Even if allowed, we were advised there was a strong possibility of restrictions, with some form of social distancing required.
This extra layer of provision adds significantly to costs. Managing a Covid-secure festival would include extra security, fencing and more. The committee agreed unanimously that in terms of both public health and our stretched finances, it would be very risky to proceed with the Edge Festival in 2021 and so we have decided to push back The Edge once again, until summer 2022.
We are very disappointed of course but will offer refunds to all ticket holders and food stalls, if this is their wish. The good news is that we have been supported wholeheartedly in this decision by the musicians and providers of our stage, PA, security and first aid. They have yet again, generously agreed to let us roll over deposits, enabling us to plan ahead. We remain committed to running The Edge in 2022 and can’t wait to welcome you onto the Maes.
The loss of two festivals in a row has had a significant impact on the finances of the Edge. We appreciate all the ongoing support the village gives us to ensure we can again get together and put on a mega Edge Festival between 29 and 31 July 2022.
A great way you can support The Edge is to keep buying Solva Gin and Rum. All profits go to The Edge, which in 2020 have kept us financially afloat. Thank you.

Solva Community Land Trust

Solva Community Land Trust

The Trust continues to make progress with some significant steps taken already this year. In its January meeting, Pembrokeshire County Council cabinet approved the use of the football field for housing. This followed the statutory consultation period when the project was advertised in the Western Telegraph and on local notice boards. Every household that adjoins the site was also written to directly to inform them of the proposal. No negative comments were received
from local residents, after all the site has been earmarked for housing for many years.
The Playing Fields Trust did however request reassurance that suitable alternative facilities were available. This has been confirmed by the CLT noting both the pitch adjacent the clubhouse and the new junior pitch proposed on the site itself. Another great stride forward has been the selection of the architect to design the project. The CLT has been actively involved in reducing the shortlist of 14 firms to three. The three finalists have now been interviewed by the CLT Board, assessing each based upon a short presentation and Q&A section. The board found each to offer a diverse range of expertise
including previous experience with CLTs and social housing projects. The details of the appointment will shortly be confirmed and then we can really crack on with engaging the community and progressing the design. Look out for notices of community workshops in the coming months.
If you haven’t joined the CLT, there is still time. For the fee of one pound you will become a full member and have a stake in the first CLT in Wales. Get in touch with Colin Reynolds (rens@btinternet.com) who leads our membership team, or Rachel Lewis (rachellewis94@live.co.uk) the CLT secretary.

Vaccine

Vaccine

The Welsh Government’s Covid-19 Vaccination Strategy sets out three key milestones:
• By mid-February – all care home residents and staff; frontline health and social care staff; everyone over 70 and everyone who is clinically extremely vulnerable will have been offered vaccination.
• By the Spring – vaccination will have been offered to all the other phase one priority groups. This is everyone over 50 and everyone who is at-risk because they have an underlying health condition.
• By the Autumn – vaccination will have been offered to all other eligible adults in Wales, in line with any guidance issued by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI).
In total, around 2.5m people throughout Wales could be offered Covid vaccines by September, depending on further advice from the JCVI. The strategy depends on sufficient and regular supplies of the vaccines being delivered. It will be kept
under review in line with supply of the vaccine and any further advice from the JCVI.
Solva and St Davids Surgeries
Each surgery has received an initial supply of the Oxford/AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine, and will now begin the vaccination of eligible patients in the following priority groups:
● Residents in a care home for older adults and their carers
● All those 80 years of age and over
● Front line Primary Care staff and social care workers whom the Health Board has allocated to us for vaccination.
The surgeries request that patients do not call them. They will call you in Priority Group order.
Further information on the Covid vaccine can be found on the Public Health website:
