2020 has proved to be an extremely difficult year for everyone and Wales Air Ambulance Charity is no exception. This national crisis has severely impacted our fundraising. We have seen our fundraising income drop by nearly 60% meaning we need your help more than ever. We currently run a 12-hour service, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. With your support, we still plan to provide a 24-hour service so we can save lives in Wales regardless of the hour. In the past 12 months, we received 3627 calls in total! To provide this continual level of service to the people of Wales, the Charity needs to raise £6.5m every year. Please help us today to save lives tomorrow. Thank you.

Spring will soon be upon us and bring some colour back at last!
There have for some time been suggestions to form a gardening venture or club in the village. It would be a way of meeting like minded people and share thoughts and ideas for pots, baskets and window boxes and to help Solva bloom. The club could also support residents, who may not be able to or don’t know much about gardening, with ideas on how to brighten their lives through gardening in a small way. If there is enough interest we could have an informal meeting at the Solva Clubhouse, once lockdown is lifted! Contact Tony Hughes: fishface197@hotmail.co.uk or 07815 792856.

SCC & Solva WI Tree Planting:
Local volunteers have now planted 350 saplings, including Rowan, Wild Cherry, Crabapple, Dogwood, Hazel and Hawthorn, on Lyn’s Path hillside. The remaining 70 saplings are being planted around the perimeter of the football pitch.
Solva planting co-ordinator Vicky Barker would like to thank all the volunteers for their hard work and good humour! As well as the Woodland Trust for providing the saplings, stakes and tree guards.
To help with future planting email Vicky at vkbarker39@yahoo.co.uk or send text on 07748 352889.

Two Crabapple trees were planted on the bank at St Aidans car park, and an ornamental Cockspur Thorn alongside the walkway to the doctor’s surgery. Thank you to spouses Jonathan and Keith for the digging of the holes and to Vicky
and Bruce from Solva Community Council for their patience and guidance.

As part of our commitment to a healthy and safe community we’re supporting the Save a Life Cymru project. We’ll be sharing more information from the project as we have it.
Every year over 6,000 people in Wales will have a cardiac arrest in the community and many will die without some simple and easy to learn interventions. Save a Life Cymru; established to increase the number of people who survive a cardiac arrest in the community; is seeking your support to help them share this important lifesaving message.
They have produced a training video: https://gov.wales/save-a-life-cymru and are looking to assist with training for public access defibrillators and encouraging the installation of more.
Touch Someone’s Life, a public information campaign, explains what any person should do in the event of a cardiac arrest (a condition where the heart suddenly stops working and the person becomes unconscious). CPR must be started immediately to pump blood around the body and a defibrillator used to restart the heart. The unpredictable and time-sensitive nature of cardiac arrest in the community makes it a unique medical emergency. There is no other medical situation that relies on such community intervention.
Around 80% of community cardiac arrests in Wales happen in peoples’ homes and can happen to anyone at any time. Many who experience a cardiac arrest often appear healthy with no known risk factors. This emphasises the importance for everyone to have CPR skills to help save family, friends, colleagues, neighbours or a stranger.
Their ambition is to create cultural change across Wales so that everyone understands the urgent need to help anyone experiencing a cardiac arrest, as well as having the skills and confidence to start CPR and defibrillation.
