An older couple in Solva is looking for a small dog to adopt. They lost their last dog some time ago and really miss having one, as they are such a good incentive to go for walks. They would like a small well behaved dog: Shih Tzu, Miniature Schnauzer, King Charles or similar size.

The aim is to create a space in our village that will help bring the community together through horticulture, sustainable living and educate people in the importance of biodiversity and the environment.
Around 10 vegetable plots of around 3m sq will be created for people to grow whatever they like, as well as a shared polytunnel for warmer climate produce, a community compost area for garden waste, a large shed for small workshop groups
and to teach new skills, as well as a place for people to socialise whilst visiting the site.
There will be a wildlife garden to encourage wildlife and a recreational seating area, as well as a space for local school children to be taught how to grow plants and vegetables and educate them on the importance of sustainable living and building stronger communities. In addition, it is aimed to help combat loneliness, which has been ever more difficult with the pandemic, and help the more vulnerable people in the community. Studies show just 30 minutes a week of gardening is beneficial to improved mental and physical well being. By offering a portion of what is grown to Solva Care and the Luncheon Club it also means the project directly goes back into the community. We are seeking funding of any size to help complete the project; also if any local businesses wish to donate products or services these would be gratefully received. The initial projected costs are £10,000, which includes clearance of the site, securing boundaries, purchasing a shed and other equipment. Offering financial help or donating?

COVID UPDATE – IMPORTANT MESSAGE
Following national guidance, we have started contacting patients aged between 65-69yrs old (Cohort 5).
Please do not ring the surgery for an appointment, we will ring you.
Over the next couple of months Covid Clinics will be held on a THURSDAYS and will involve the WHOLE TEAM. Repeat Prescriptions will NOT be available for collection on THURSDAYS.
A Doctor will be available for emergencies.
St Davids Surgery COVID Vaccination Clinics – the next steps:
Priority Group 5 – people aged 65-69 – has commenced.
Priority Group 6 – for people aged 16-64 years with specific underlying health conditions – has commenced. As this particular priority group includes large numbers of patients, the Health Board is currently planning to utilise the Mass Vaccination Centres and possibly Community Pharmacies alongside General Practice in order to deliver the vaccination.
Covid vaccination clinics at St Davids Surgery will be held all day on Thursdays; some half-days on Tuesdays; and some Saturdays – when we need to vaccinate large cohorts of patients. These clinics involve the WHOLE SURGERY TEAM – please DO NOT COLLECT PRESCRIPTIONS ON THOSE DAYS.
A GP will always be available on Covid vaccination days to deal with urgent medical problems.

● Scam NHS Covid Vaccine emails
The victim receives an email that they are on the Covid vaccination list and they need to select whether they do or don’t want the injection. Either choice will take the victim to a site where they will be requested to enter personal / financial data.
The NHS is not sending these emails out – it is a SCAM.

● A Facebook Phishing campaign – scam FACEBOOK ALERT
Facebook users have been receiving a message “is that you”?, claiming to have found a video or image with you featured in it. Do not click on the link as you will be taken to sites where your credentials will be harvested and used by criminals. Also, do not enter your Facebook User ID and Password!

This is a scam – check by hovering mouse pointer over incoming email address, not Royal Mail then its a scam. Do not click on “Redelivery your parcel” link.
In all the above cases report suspicious emails to: report@phishing.gov.uk. and suspicious texts by forwarding the original message to 7726.
The Edge Festival Committee met in the New Year to consider how best to go forward with our festival this year. After seeking advice, particularly from Events Wales, it remained unclear whether large (over 50 people) live events would be able to take place this summer. Even if allowed, we were advised there was a strong possibility of restrictions, with some form of social distancing required.
This extra layer of provision adds significantly to costs. Managing a Covid-secure festival would include extra security, fencing and more. The committee agreed unanimously that in terms of both public health and our stretched finances, it would be very risky to proceed with the Edge Festival in 2021 and so we have decided to push back The Edge once again, until summer 2022.
We are very disappointed of course but will offer refunds to all ticket holders and food stalls, if this is their wish. The good news is that we have been supported wholeheartedly in this decision by the musicians and providers of our stage, PA, security and first aid. They have yet again, generously agreed to let us roll over deposits, enabling us to plan ahead. We remain committed to running The Edge in 2022 and can’t wait to welcome you onto the Maes.
The loss of two festivals in a row has had a significant impact on the finances of the Edge. We appreciate all the ongoing support the village gives us to ensure we can again get together and put on a mega Edge Festival between 29 and 31 July 2022.
A great way you can support The Edge is to keep buying Solva Gin and Rum. All profits go to The Edge, which in 2020 have kept us financially afloat. Thank you.
On the 5th February there will be a road closure for one day due to telecom polling works. The road being closed will be the Unclassified (U3026) road towards Middle Mill – from its junction with the C3057 crossroads, west to its junction within the vicinity of the property known as Tremaenhir. An alternative route can be found on the C3057 Middle Mill towards Brawdy, and C3057 road towards the U3026 junction. Pedestrian access will be maintained.
