Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority guidance

Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority guidance

The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority has issued guidance to people who have access to the countryside on their doorsteps to help them stay safe while out walking.

The countryside guidance has been produced as a reminder to those out walking to follow Government advice and to be mindful of the Countryside Code, respecting any people and livestock encountered.

The guidance advises people to:

  • Only use country paths in your neighbourhood that you can walk to from your house – DO NOT drive to the countryside to walk.

  • Keep to the path – Do not trespass onto private land; only use public footpaths and bridleways.

  • Practice social distancing – Keep a minimum of two metres apart from other walkers and avoid using narrow paths.

  • Plan your walk – Try to avoid busy times of day when many other people may be walking, and if possible, don`t use the same route every day.

  • Respect residents and landowners – If a path runs close to a house or farm try and take a different walk. If this isn’t possible, please respect the residents’ space as they may be vulnerable and self-isolating.

  • Keep dogs on leads – The lambing season has begun and many fields are now stocked with sheep and lambs.

Land slide on the coast path – West of Solva

Land slide on the coast path – West of Solva

We have just received a report of a land slide on the coast path between The Cradle and Gewni just west of Solva. The attached photo was supplied by a member of the public and we have yet to verify this report but it appears to be on footpath PP102/20 between Solva and Porth y Rhaw.

This section of path is currently closed in accordance with the Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) (Wales) Regulations 2020, but our team will go out and lock the gate which takes you out onto the headland from the Solva side of the path and erect signage on the Llanunwas and NineWells link paths.

We will look to undertake realignment works once we have clearance and will let you know.

PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL: LEADER’S CORONAVIRUS UPDATE, WEDNESDAY, 1ST APRIL

PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL: LEADER’S CORONAVIRUS UPDATE, WEDNESDAY, 1ST APRIL

Pembrokeshire County Council Leader, Councillor David Simpson, has provided a further coronavirus update for Wednesday, 1st April, as follows:

It has been another busy day for my colleagues within the Authority and everyone is working hard to tackle Covid-19.

We are operating in unprecedented and challenging times and have engaged our Emergency Planning protocols to manage the situation.

We have set up a strategic group that reviews matters daily. Sub-groups then support this strategic group and each group has defined roles and responsibilities. I can confirm that senior managers lead this robust structure.

I want to thank them for the way they are organising and managing the Authority’s resources to ensure our communities are supported.

I’m also aware that the elected County Councillors are very active out in the community. I am proud at the way officers and Elected Members are working to safeguard our county and communities.

I am pleased to announce that from today we have started paying Covid-19 grants to small businesses. We are processing payments as quickly as possible.

The following grants are available to small businesses to support the costs associated with the impact of Covid-19 on their businesses as follows;

  • small business grant funding of £10,000 for all business in receipt of small business rate relief or rural rate relief;

  • grant funding of £25,000 for retail, hospitality and leisure businesses with property with a rateable value between £12,001 and £51,000.

Councillor Paul Miller, the Cabinet Member for Economy, told me: “I know our local businesses are doing all they can to sustain jobs and livelihoods. Our job is to get assistance to them as quickly and efficiently as possible.”

I would like to highlight that the Welsh Blood service has set up regional donation hubs. The regional hub in Haverfordwest will be open tomorrow at Haverfordwest Rugby Club. Book your slot at: https://wbs.wales/Havwest10 or phone: 0800 252266

Councillor Tessa Hodgson, the Cabinet Member for Social Services, has commented how delighted she is to see so many people coming forward in our communities to volunteer.

PEMBROKESHIRE COUNTY COUNCIL: LEADER’S CORONAVIRUS UPDATE, THURSDAY 26TH MARCH

Pembrokeshire County Council Leader, Councillor David Simpson, has provided a further coronavirus update for Thursday 26th March, as follows:

I want to stress again the importance of listening to the government advice on how to tackle this virus; we all have a role to play.

We have taken steps to ensure that our own staff, or those working for us, who need to be in their workplace, or helping in the community as key workers, will have the necessary identification to confirm this, in terms of the policing of this measure.

I would also highlight that due to the ongoing Covid-19 epidemic, Pembrokeshire County Council is looking for staff to work with us on a temporary basis within our Social Care Directorate as Home Care (Domiciliary Care) and Residential Care Workers.

We are particularly keen to hear from those staff who have previous experience in these sectors, but if you feel that you have relevant transferable skills and you would be willing to undertake the necessary training then we would like to hear from you.

All roles will require flexibility in terms of location, and hours worked which could include early mornings, evenings and weekends.

Please complete the application and indicate on this form which roles you would be interested in and your availability in terms of location and available hours.

If you have any queries or would like further information please contact Emma James (01437 775071), Kerry Cox (01437 776580), Jo Pugh-Davies (01437 775823) or Rebecca Noyce (01437 775534). WASTE AND RECYCLING CENTRES CLOSE BUT KERBSIDE COLLECTIONS CONTINUE

Pembrokeshire’s six Waste and Recycling centres have now closed but kerbside waste and recycling collections across the County are to continue.

Public Health Wales has issued the following advice for disposal of personal waste during the coronavirus outbreak:

Personal waste (such as used tissues) and disposable cleaning cloths/ wipes should be placed securely within a disposable rubbish or plastic bag.

These bags should be placed into another second bag, tied securely and kept separate from other waste.

This should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being placed in your usual residual “grey” bags for collection.

Please ensure all recycling is sorted correctly. With reduced staffing levels, this will help Council staff to collect and empty your recycling more easily.

RIGHTS OF WAY STAY OPEN – BUT REMAIN UNDER REVIEW

Following careful consideration, it has been decided to keep Pembrokeshire County Council’s public rights of way network open for now.

The decision will remain under review and may change if areas are identified where groups of people are congregating and actively ignoring measures set out by the Government.

Members of the public must follow the directions for social distancing if using the paths.

Use local routes and not travel to other parts of the countryside unnecessarily.

Please keep to the paths, keep your distance from other people and landowners, continue to follow the restrictions.

Coastal car parks have been closed by the County Council.

Council-run play areas – are closed.

Within Pembrokeshire many public rights of way, including the coast path are managed by Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority (PCNPA). Details of any path closures within the National Park area can be checked via the PCNPA website at https://www.pembrokeshirecoast.wales/
