The new bridge over the River Solfach

The new bridge over the River Solfach

Additional safety precautions have been put in place on the bridge with wooden battens affixed along its length at knee level. This will, hopefully, ensure excitable youngsters (possible playing Pooh sticks) don’t fall through the railings and have an early bath! Many thanks go to our local Park Ranger Ian Meopham for organising and carrying out the installation.

Table Tennis has restarted in Solva Memorial Hall and for 2 hours you can ping and pong to your heart’s content. Social distancing is not a problem as a standard table tennis table is 9ft in length, and the Hall has two of them! Meetings take place in the Hall on a Tuesday afternoon from 3.30 pm to 5.30 pm. Tinny Tuesday Continues!

Tinny Tuesday Continues!

Your tinny offerings are more welcome than ever as demand for the weekly food parcels has increased, so we are continuing until Christmas at least.

One thing has changed — our pickup time is now 5pm instead of 6pm. So thank you again for your continued support of this project which helps people in St Davids and Solva who are in real need.

Solva CLT General Meeting

Solva CLT General Meeting

Solva CLT’s AGM will be held via Zoom at 7pm on 18 November 2020.  Everyone is invited to that meeting, but only members will be able to vote so download a membership form or pick one up from Bay View Stores.

The AGM will consist of a short presentation on the CLT and then the important election of 8 people to serve on the Board. So far the Board has been self selected so it is important that the leadership of the project is now placed in the hands of an elected body. So please become a member and join the AGM on 18 November. There is still a great deal of work to do before this ground-breaking project is realised.

Funding Approved for Solva CLT!

Funding Approved for Solva CLT!

The joint project by Solva Community Land Trust (SCLT) and housing association ateb to create new homes for the benefit of local people has received funding approval from Pembrokeshire County Council. The scheme will be mainly funded through the County Council’s Affordable Homes fund which is drawn from the Authority’s Second Homes Council Tax premium, introduced in 2017-18.

County Councillor Bob Kilmister, Cabinet Member for Finance, said SCLT have been engaging with the community and working with ateb to design a residential development which will meet the needs of local people. “The housing would give them the option to remain in their area rather than having to move away” he said.

Councillor Michelle Bateman, Cabinet Member for Housing, also welcomed the proposals. “This is a fantastic scheme, and a good news story for Pembrokeshire” she said. “It’s great to see new and innovative ways of delivering housing and credit to SCLT for its hard work and commitment to this initiative.”

Part of the proposed development site is on local playing fields belonging to PCC and leased to Solva Community Council.  In order for the housing scheme to proceed, there is a need to comply with the requirements of the Playing Fields (Community Involvement in Disposal Decisions) (Wales) Regulations 2015 in connection with the proposed disposal of the land by way of a long lease. This proposal has been approved by Cabinet and is currently being advertised and circulated to relevant parties, in line with regulation requirements.

Remembrance Sunday

Remembrance Sunday

Having reviewed WAG Covid-19 guidelines, Solva’s Remembrance Sunday will be somewhat different to previous years. A video showing names of the fallen – Solva 1914-18, 1939-45 and of 14th Signal Regiment – will be posted on social media on Sunday 8 November.
A small service will take place at the Solva War Memorial commencing at 10.30am.
14th Signal Regiment are invited to attend and the roll-call of the fallen will be included. It is envisaged the service will not be open to the public. Instead local residents are invited to stand outside their front doors in readiness for the 2 minute silence at 11.00am, uniting the village to remember and honour those who have sacrificed themselves to secure and protect our freedom.
